Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet Review
With their virtual keyboards and focus on media consumption, most tablets appeal more to couch-cruising consumers than professionals looking to get some work done. Built for productivity, the ThinkPad Tablet breaks the slate mold by providing first-rate digital pen support, business-friendly software, a durable design, and plentiful ports. With a starting price of Rs 22,500, Lenovo's first Think-branded Android slate isn't perfect, but it is the best content creation tablet on the market.
DesignThe ThinkPad Tablet incorporates the same raven-black aesthetic we've come to know and love in Lenovo's ThinkPad business notebooks. Made from Corning's scratch- and break-resistant Gorilla Glass, the glossy screen is surrounded by a thin black bezel emblazoned with light gray ThinkPad and Lenovo logos. At the bottom of the front bezel sit four physical buttons with functions like auto rotate on/off, web browser, back, and home. Too bad the buttons are stiff; we found them more difficult to press than we'd like.
The rubberized back and sides reminded us of the sleek sof-ttouch lids we've seen on notebooks like the ThinkPad T series. The back panel features a silver ThinkPad logo with a red light that illuminates whenever the tablet is in use. It's a nice touch.
At 10.3 x 7.2 x 0.6 inches and 1.6 pounds, the ThinkPad Tablet weighs the same as the Toshiba Thrive (1.6 pounds) and the Lenovo IdeaPad K1. However, both the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (1.2 pounds, 0.34 inches thick) and the Apple's iPad 2 (1.3 pounds, 0.34 inches) are significantly lighter and thinner. Still, we like the solid feel of the ThinkPad Tablet, and it's easy to lean the device against your lap when taking notes with the included pen.
PortsThe ThinkPad Tablet has a broad selection of ports and slots. On the short bottom side of the chassis sit a headphone jack, mini HDMI out, microUSB, and docking station ports. Beneath a flap cover you'll find a full-size SD card reader and a SIM card slot (which only works on 3G versions of the device).
Honda Motorcycle Scooter launches
Two-wheeler maker Honda Motorcycle & ScooterIndia today launched an advanced version of its scooter Dio, priced at Rs 42,362 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
"In its new avatar, Dio now comes with global moto-scooter styling and new advanced 110 cc engine, which replaces the earlier 102 cc engine," Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) said in a statement.
The company has added some more features to the new Dio such as tubeless tyres, more leg space and wider seat for better ride experience, it added.
"The new combi-brake feature ensures improved riding stability and braking efficiency," HMSI said.
The company will start selling the new Dio by the end of February across all its dealerships, it added.
The new Dio will give a mileage of 55 km per litre, which is 15 per cent higher than the old one, HMSI claimed.
During the Auto Expo last month, HMSI had unveiled seven new models, including a new 110 cc mass segment motorcycle Dream Yuga, which will be rolled out over a period of next four months.
The unveiled products include sports bike CBR 150R, new variants of CB Shine, CBR 250R, besides bigger bikes like VT 1300CX and new CBR 1000RR Fireblade.

Virtob virus infects worms that help it spread faster
There’s already a mind-blowing amount of malware floating around the Internet, and the individual worms, viruses, and Trojans are bad enough on their own. When they learn to work in tandem with each other, however, they take the infection game to a whole new level. BitDefender recently noted that in a sample of 10 million infected files, more than 40,000 of them showed signs of a dual infection: files that were compromised by a self-propagating worm that itself had been infected by a virus.
It’s not in a computer virus’ nature to spread itself — it needs help from other software. What BitDefender observed is that one particular virus, Virtob, is actively infecting worms in order to increase its reach. In particular, it has been seen hopping on files that have had malicious code injected by the Rimecud worm — which spreads via file sharing programs like BearShare, DC++, and eMule, USB mass storage devices, and instant messaging applications.
With the Virtob virus in tow, new computers are now double infected and put their users at significantly greater risk. Both pieces of malware receive different instructions from separate command and control servers, and both respond in different ways — Rimecub likes to steal passwords and contact lists, and Virtob prefers to hijack web pages and trick users into installing fake AV software and other crapware.
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Will Have Next-Gen Menus
Mark Shuttleworth announced a few minutes ago, January 24th, on his blog that the next version of the Ubuntu operating system, Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin), will feature a HUD (head-up display) system, replacing the old menus.
“Say hello to the Head-Up Display, or HUD, which will ultimately replace menus in Unity applications.” – said Mark Shuttleworth in the blog announcement.
Developed in-house during the last 18 months, the next-generation menu system will definitely revolutionize both the Linux and Windows desktops.
The old menus (yes, the ones that are now designed like in Mac OS) will be replaced by the new HUD system developed by Canonical.
