Lenovo unveils student-orientated ThinkPad X131e laptop

Lenovo ThinkPad X131e Features

Fully customisable, the 11.6-inch ThinkPad X131e offers wannabe owners a selection of processing options with the top of the line model landing with an Intel Core i3 CPU and Intel HD graphics.

Offering an even balance between work and play, those plumping for the latest ThinkPad will see a low-light webcam feature alongside Dolby Advanced Audio abilities that boost the inbuilt speakers.

“We know from experience that students are our toughest customers – literally – and for that reason we make it a point to go above and beyond our standard ruggedness features in the laptops we introduce for education,” said Dilip Bhatia, VP of Lenovo’s ThinkPad Business Unit.

The perfect backpack companion, the X131e weighs in well under the 2kg mark whilst boasting a battery life of up to 8.5 hours. Its student-proof reinforced hinges, steel hinge brackets and strengthened AC adapter cable means it can withstand more damage than the average laptop.

The ThinkPad X131e can also be bought in custom colours or with a school logo etched into the top cover.

Lenovo ThinkPad X131e Release Date

With a Lenovo ThinkPad X131e UK release date pencilled in for July, eager students will be able to snap up the variable coloured laptop in a matter of weeks with prices ranging between £349 and £499 depented on specs.

Dell Vostro 3360 (Starting at $649 & Dell Vostro 3460Starting at $599)

If portability's your bag, the Dell Vostro 3360 will definitely fit inside of it. With a profile thickness of just .76-inches. this 13.3-inch laptop can go anywhere. The WLED anti-glare display packs a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. We have to see how well that display sips power from the included 4-cell battery. And speaking of power, the Dell Vostro 3360 packs 2 standard-issue USB 3.0 slots as well as one more port that marries USB 3.0 with Power Share technology for charging devices while the notebook's lid is closed. For storage, the 3360 can ship with a 320GB 7200rpm hard drive or a 500GB 5400rpm option--and don't forget, you can toss in a 32GB SSD armed with Intel Rapid Start technology to save time on booting the system.

Dell Vostro 3460Starting at $599
The 14-inch Dell Vostro 3460 packs the same WLED glare-proof screen as the smaller 3350, but is available with a 1920 x 1080p, full HD resolution as well (or you can opt for the lower res 1366x768 option). To match the demands of a full HD panel, shoppers can also add optional Nvidia GT630M graphics. And in the spirit of upgrading, a back-lit keyboard will be a consideration for some as well. If you really want to max out on the hardware, the 3460 can run beefier hard drive options than the starter-level 320GB 7200rpm spinner. There are 500GB and 700GB 7200rpm drives as well. One feature that doesn't require a upgrade is the 6-cell battery, which comes included.

Dell Launches Two XPS Laptops, One with Ultrabook Capabilities

Dell has unveiled two new additions to its XPS laptop lineup including a 14-inch clamshell that can be configured as an Ultrabook and a more high-powered 15.6-inch device. The new laptops feature thin aluminum casings, edge-to-edge displays with hardened Corning Glass, backlit chiclet keyboards and multigesture touchpads. Both of the new laptops are available now and the specs are pretty close to what leaked to a Chinese tech site earlier in June.

Shared specs between the XPS 14 and 15 include USB 3.0 ports, a mini DisplayPort, HDMI Out, a 3-in-1 media card reader, and a 1.3 megapixel Webcam. Both devices also come with an Ethernet jack, but Dell says the devices were too thin to offer a full Ethernet option. To get around this problem the company included a hinged Ethernet port that expands to fit a cable when you open it.
The XPS 14 standard configuration includes a 14-inch WLED display with 1600-by-900 resolution, dual-core 2.6 GHz Ivy Bridge Core i5-3317U, Intel HD Graphics 4000, 4GB DDR3 RAM, 802.11 a/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. For storage options you can choose a 500GB hard drive, a 500GB hard drive with 32GB mSATA SSD, or a 512GB SSD. If you choose one of the SSD options, the XPS 14 qualifies as an Ultrabook, according to Dell’s chief blogger, Lionel Menchaca. Dell claims battery life for the XPS 14 is between 8 and 11 hours, depending on the configuration
To keep the XPS 14 thin Dell decided not to include an optical drive; the laptop measures 0.81 inches thick. Despite the XPS 14's thin size you will still feel it when you throw this thing in a backpack as the weight for the base configuration is 4.6 pounds.
The XPS 15 features a 15.6-inch WLED display with 1920-by-1080 full HD resolution, a dual core 3.1 GHz Ivy Bridge Core i5-3210M or you can upgrade to a quad-core 3.1 GHz Ivy Bridge Core i7-3612QM. Standard features include a Nvidia GeForce GT 630M graphics card with 1GB GDDR5, a 500GB hard drive with 32GB mSATA SSD, 802.11 a/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and a slot load DVD-RW (Blu-ray drive upgrade option available). The XPS 15 base configuration weighs 5.79 pounds and measures 0.91 inches thick.
The XPS 14 will have a price tag starting at $1,100 and XPS 15 pricing starts at $1,300.
